Ever thought about owning your own island? Here's Second Sister Island, nestled in Ganges Harbour, on Salt Spring Island. The tiny islet just to the lower left is called Twilight Island, and it's a "summer place". This islet gives protection to the dock on Second Sister Island. The "prow" of the neighbouring island, First Sister Island, is privately owned and has not been developed. The famed Chocolate Beach is on First Sister, a quick kayak ride away.
In the background, one can see Scott Point and Nose Point, to the upper left, which enfold Long Harbour, a narrow harbour that provides protection for the ferry that services Vancouver to Salt Spring Island. Beyond, lies Prevost Island, Galiano Island, Mayne Island...Active Pass is the ferry route, from Vancouver's Tsswassan terminal to Victoria's Swartz Bay terminal, and it separates Galiano and Mayne Islands. The camere doesn't pick it up, but the Lower Mainland Mountains, including Mt. Baker's majesty in Washington State, can be seen on the horizon.
You can see why sailors love to ply the waters between the San Juan Islands in Washington State and the Southern Gulf Islands in Canada. These are famed as the best protected boating waters in the world...the beautiful Pacific Northwest Coast is a destination to be enjoyed!
