Islands Trust...in this election year, some questions being asked....change in it? Like real estate...evolving?

If you're passing a magazine rack, look for the March issue of BC Business.   Very interesting article on the impact of the Islands Trust, on "today's Gulf Islands".   Yes, Salt Spring Island is mentioned specifically.   Well-written, and does bring up the issue that the 1974 documents may have satisfied issues at that historical time, but may no longer fit current 2011 realities.

Another article in the same magazine outlines a new real estate company format...an Alberta based company looking to grow into a recognizable brand presence.  Called 2 Percent Realty (no connection to the Vancouver based One Percent Realty).   It does note the post-internet impact on real estate as an industry, though, and highlights the different role now expected of a realtor.

The RedFin model in the U.S. may soon be replicated in Canada.   In that format, it remains a traditional commission (paid by seller), but it is split 50/50 with the buyer....$10,000 gross commission?  Half to the real estate side and half to the buyer.  Now that does seem to be a 21st Century script!   The consumer benefits.

Pre and post internet -- two completely different experiences!

Ah, change...in it, though, lies opportunity!
