Musings, at harvest time....

Twenty years from now, I think people will look back on these days as a pivotal time...a time of such dramatic change that it can only be appreciated as a shift moment.   Something epochal, not just one more economic recession.

It is an economic upheaval, of course.   It is also a total societal change.  A time of such shift that it may change us as a species.

If we're sitting on the wrong side of the shift, then we will disappear.   On the right side?   Growth and survival.

Reading the novels of George Eliot, of Charles Dickens, might be helpful...they were eloquently describing the clash between the older traditional agrarian world and that of the new industrial revolution.  A time of huge cultural shift, just the same dynamic as in today's societal changes.

The internet, invented to facilitate communication between scientists, on a small scale, has flooded into every area of our lives, and completely changed outcomes.

Real vs virtual...print vs digital...dreams of returning to past days vs understanding that the change is profound/is final.   Things will never be the same....

If we fall down a narrow channel, so focused on one aspect of an event (which is lovingly maintained by the "shout media"), we will lose the ability to practice our editing skills, and our peripheral vision...you know, the 180 view as opposed to the 20 degree focus.

As creative beings, it's time to free float a bit, to accept that things are different, and to recognize that hybrid people, those who straddle the BG (Before Google) and the AG (After Google) divide, they will never feel totally comfortable in the real 21st Century.   That doesn't matter as long as they are in the sea of technological change.

In the middle of the tussle of a transition time, between two completely different worlds, pre and post internet, let's remember the good business practices that are always in the forefront of success, regardless of the platform of dissemination...you know, things like ethics, mentorship, paying it forward, working for the good of the customer, involving our family in our business lives, so that they feel a part of what it is we do, making sure we take five in our busy days, where the internet has robbed us of the old sense of time slots...it's now always time, meaning somewhere it's time to be on, and can we comfortably be off?   There's a question!

Just some musings, in the Fall harvest season, looking down the early days of Q4, seeking substantiation of the rumour of improving days in real estate sales...and thinking of both the opportunity of being "on" and also need for "off" time, in our binary lives.    You remember, binary is like a switch...on/off, act/react, on/off....hmmm...let's practice that one more time....maybe "off" is where inspiration comes from?    Some dreaming time, anyone?    Maybe!

And your thoughts are?    Always welcome!
