There are all sorts of beaches and oceanfront in my island area...in one particular spot, there is a foreshore of sandstone, some sloping, some folded at almost sea level into shelves of rock.
In the summer, it's great to lie on these warm stoney surfaces!
Endless scouring tides have created "holes" or "pockets" in the rock. On some more northern islands, with a brisker tide action, entire "tunnel caves" have been hollowed out of the sandstone formations, and this is a dramatic thing to observe, drifting past on a sailboat.
Wind and waves and weather created interesting sculptural effects. People who live on the sandstone shoreline love its nooks and crannies, and wouldn't trade it for a beach or a cove.
Just give me sun and sea and perpetual summer, and any kind of beachfront is great!
