I'm always interested in how creative people stay true to themselves, and end up helping all the rest of us, more timorous perhaps, to try out our dreams.
On Salt Spring, we are lucky to have Robert Bateman in our midst. A renowned wildlife painter, with a global audience, Robert Bateman has also been a strong environmentalist his entire life, with a message of protecting the biodiversity.
One of his concerns right now is that children are losing touch with the natural world, as they remain "indoor people", attached to the surrogate world of technology, and are losing their connection to the natural world.
Without that connection, there will be a continuing severing of awareness and even interest in acknowledging and retaining species -- our "neighbours" on the earth.
Robert Bateman is very approachable and is passionate about passing along his rapport with Nature and in encouraging others to be involved in the struggle to preserve the biodiversity of life.
If you have an opportunity to hear him speak at a Conservancy sponsored event, or at some other speaking engagement, be sure to attend! Book signing events, gallery openings...these are other places, globally, where you might encounter Robert Bateman.
He will make you think, whether via an in-person encounter or through his magical and evocative art.
Be inspired!
