Lots of things to be thoughtful about in this softer season...and important to remember those who need a little extra right now:
On Salt Spring, it's the SPCA, Food Bank, Copper Kettle, volunteers at Lady Minto, at Greenwoods, spelling off caregivers so they have some time for themselves....and in your area?
A smile and a kind word to a clerk in a store, to a wait person in a restaurant, to a service provider...one never knows just how much this simple act will change someone's perspective that day. We meet briefly, in a space that is on the surface, and thus it's so important to be gracious...perhaps that person is in a very serious situation, on that subterranean level.
During these times of great shift, maybe we could borrow the idea of dialogue, from those Ancient Greeks, back in the Agora.
It seems that one of the main reminders from the Dalai Llama is to practice compassion.
Maybe a good way to ease through the rest of October?
