Plays, Art Shows, Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend...it's busy in the off season!

Field
Thanksgiving Weekend coming up...a great time to remember that so important attitude of gratitude.   A time to reconnect with family and with friends...and if you find yourself alone, seek out those who would welcome a connection, others on their own, or perhaps do some volunteering, help out a care-giver, tutor a student...don't forget that the local restaurants are presenting traditional Thanksgiving Dinners, so if you're on your own, take part in the lights and the feast, with others...Calvin's Bistro and Harbour House Hotel do the "turkey dinner" things, and always beautifully so.

At Mahon Hall, catch the excitement of this year's Painters Guild presentation, called Creative Journeys.    From Oct 7 to 11, with an opening reception on the 7th, from 7 to 9 p.m.    Enjoy Norris Clement (Pianist and Composer) at the reception....he plays many styles with classical, jazz, Latin & swing presentations...lucky Islanders!    Renowned installation artist, Diana Thompson, is a guest artist this year...for this year's Painters Guild exhibition, she has created lively curtains for the back windows of Mahon Hall.   Guild members will be showing sculpture, textile art, basketry, woodworking, silk painting, collage, jewellery, mixed media, and more "unusual forms of artwork".    Check it out...be inspired!

Get your tickets for The Gin Game, playing at ArtSpring Oct 5, 6, 7, 8, with a matinee on the 8th.    The stellar Scott Hylands, Sue Newman perform under the direction of Lynda Jensen.   See you there! (Into big band sound?    Don't miss this!).

We are softly sliding into our off season time...maples and alders turning golden, lots of sunny days, cooler temps...cloudy drifts, drizzles, too...it's the wet coast, after all!    Still lots to do and to see, with myriad craft fairs about to occur...time to light the fire, pick up a book from one of our four great bookstores, make some soup....and what about a night school class, just to keep the little grey cells exercised?

Spanish lessons, anyone?

How may I help you to discover special Salt Spring Island & the Southern Gulf Islands?   Call me!
