It's odd how events in the larger world are mirrored in the smaller, more personal sphere, too.
Wars, famine, chaos, ecomomic dissolution, massive enviromental disasters, earthquakes, floods, riots...the images of death and destruction float out at us from endless looping t.v. coverage.
More microcosmically, cancer, and MS and Parkinson's and ALS, and crippling arthritis, and diabetes, among just a few diseases that are epidemic in our current time, appear to be capturing people at a younger and yournger age. People in their 30s and 40s are so afflicted...it makes one wonder about the envelope of our lives, and what it is in them that is a contaminant of some sort.
Big picture or small picture, it is so essential to keep our perspective. Important to remember the power of an outstretched hand, of a smile in a long lineup in a bank or a post office, a simple word of hello, delivered in a friendly voice...one can never know the story of the stranger adjacent to us, wherever we find ourselves.
We may never know that a simple action on our part did help someone through their day.
Perhaps they even passed our small gesture along, to someone else in their day.
Suddenly, the small aspect is affecting the big picture...one step at a time.
Didn't we used to practice "random acts of kindness"?
Hmmm....there is no "them" remember, only "us".
Let's step out, no matter the circumstances, from a positive and not from a negative. Whether it's in our business lives, or our personal spheres, or simply a reflection to a stranger, we need to remember that power that resides in our good heartedness.
Really, in any moment we are here, breathing, the only thing we can control is our attitude.
And your thoughts are? Always welcome!
