Mark your calendars for these events...on Salt Spring Island....

June 11, 2011.

Mark your calendars: June 25th, at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), at Lion's Hall, on corner of Drake & Bonnet...the Mother Tongue Publishing Book Launch & Reading Celebration for The Life and Art of Mildred Valley Thornton, by Sheryl Salloum. This is the fourth book in The Unheralded Artists of BC series. Discover the recent past, in our Coastal arts scene!

Canada Day, July 1st, is the Big Opening Party for the Summer Lights Night Gallery at Duthie Gallery (formerly called Salt Spring Woodworks). Enjoy these evocative illuminated sculptures, Fridays, throughout our "season".

Our on again/off again "spring/summer" is what it is...catch the sun whenever it appears...pop on a raincoat and get out and about anyway...gardens are enjoying this!

A special treat in the month of June is to wander the rose garden at the famed Butchart's Gardens, in Victoria's Saanich Peninsula...treat yourself to an English afternoon tea, and wander the gardens...lucky us, to live a short ferry distance away!

The Saturday Market in the Park is a definite highlight, for locals and tourists alike.

This season, we get two "foodie" markets...on Tuesdays, one in the United Church garden, off Hereford, and the other at Centennial Park...different, but complimentary. Great to offer two venues, for farmers, gardeners, food producers to display and sell their produce...bread bakers, pastries, and jams/jellies as well as veggies, etc. Lucky us!

Make sure you attend the Trust information presentation on June 21st, at Harbour House Hotel, re their promotion of their bylaw re their RAR interpretation. After the 21st, there can be no further public input, and this bylaw will become law. Do you know what's involved? How it will affect your property? The mystery is the speed of this bylaw adoption, and without much public information being shared with property owners, many of whom are not year round residents. Be informed!

Canada Day celebrations on July 1st always include a Classic Car Show...see you there! Fireworks at dusk (almost 10 p.m.)...lots in between.

Feel about classic cars the way I do? Check out the amazing show & shine on Father's Day at Qualicum Beach...spare a look at the Studebaker line-up...now that was a car ahead of its time! A design that still looks "fresh".

What makes you relax into summer? Let yourself go into the allure of "the season"...it's a short one. Go for it!
