Things to do & to see & to enjoy, late Fall...on Salt Spring Island!

Autumn

Mark your calendars now...the amazing Salt Spring Singers perform their December concert, at ArtSpring...you won't want to miss this.   Roses for Christmas, presented on Dec 3 at 8 p.m., and on Dec 4 at 2 p.m.   Directed by Mitch Howard, with so talented Don Conley as Assistant Conductor, and Jennifer Howard as Accompanist, Salt Spring is in for an inspiring seasonal treat...tickets at ArtSpring, 250-537-2102.

Tomorrow, Tuesday the 25th, join Arthur Black for the Treasures auction, at ArtSpring, to benefit Transitions.   Tickets are $20, and include a glass of wine & appys.   Tickets available only at Transitions Thrift Shop. Art work is generously donated by many local artists, including John Bateman, Patricia Brown, Stephanie Denz, Kathleen Horsdal, Larry Melious, & Cathy Robertson.  Starts at 7:30 p.m.   All proceeds go to support IWAV - Island Women Against Violence, who in turn operate Transitions House, as well as offering outreach & counselling services, & running programs for children who have witnessed violence.   The local Transitions Thriftstore is also there to support these projects.   Local storyteller, Ahava Shira, will share stories along with other women re: Treasures: the Stories Women Tell about the Things They Keep.    Arthur Black is the MC.  A very worthy cause, indeed!

This Island is a generous supporter of many causes, fundraisers...the Islanders do step forward to hear the call, always, and this is just one more way that Salt Spring exemplifies true community.

The Spookhouse is back on for Halloween night, at Mahon Hall...open from time school gets out to when the fireworks begin.   Best seat to view the fireworks?   Along the Boardwalk, or along the median wall in front of Harbour House, or, if you're lucky to know someone on the higher regions behind the Village, join them on their view decks!    A fun way to celebrate this late Fall moment.

Daylight Saving ends on November 5th, this year...enjoy these still lighter evenings while they last!

Time to ponder the shelves in our great local bookstores (Volume 2, down by the Coast Guard dock/floatplane dock), Black Sheep Books at the entrance to Grace Point Square, Watermark Books & Salt Spring Books on McPhillips Avenue.   Check out the Library's temporary location, too, off Jackson Road...watch the construction of the new Library facility.

Lots of sunny days in the Fall/early Winter...lots to take part in, too.    Gallery openings, studio tours, craft fairs, plays, musical events, things to do & to see.    Remember to walk every day, maybe check out some more organized movement classes, gyms and yoga instruction choices abound...it's a fallow field moment, time to recharge/reboot...part of that is in relaxing into the season, itself.   A quieter time, a time of reflection....enjoy your Fall moments.
