What is it that makes us desire to create a "home"?
Right now, there seems to be a growing thought that it's not a "requirement" to own a home...one could be a tenant, instead.
Certainly, there are times in life where we may find ourselves as tenants, not owners of our spaces.
It does seem, though, that as humans we are drawn to making a cocoon for ourselves, and the word for house, in all languages, seems to carry with it this resonance...a place to withdraw to, that is "just ours". Our private world, where we can bring our personalities to the space.
For this owner, a garden scape that expanded his living area was top of the list. The flow from inside / outside, here, is very pleasing, and the patio plus intensely planted garden area (not so much weeding!) does expand his summer living options.
What we don't see from this vantage point is a feature water sculpture, so that sound is a part of his garden experience, too.
Another person would not do this kind of landscaping, and the interior spaces of their home would not flow in/out, in just this way.
That's the great thing about home ownership, though...along with creating our place to "just be", we get to make it exactly the way that will make us the most comfortable.
Is this why we are really showcasing ourselves, when we present our homes to our friends?
Hmmm...if so, I have to do something about that clutter. I see myself as a minimalist at heart, and yet my home doesn't reflect this. So, maybe I'm really an "everything on view" Victorian?
