It's the Canadian Holiday Weekend (Victoria Day Weekend), and it's the traditional start of summer,across the country. This is mirrored in the U.S. next weekend, with Memorial Day.
On the Gulf Islands, it's almost like we get two back to back holidays, as we are so close to Washington State and the San Juan Islands, and so we do have a lot of U.S. visitors next weekend.
We're a protected boating waters area, as we lie between the protection of the huge Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland/Vancouver area, tucked into the lee side of Georgia Strait (historically known as the Salish Sea). Whether it's power or sail, these waters are charmed for sea voyaging!
So many changes in all aspects of life, these days, as our technology continues to demand change of us, in both business and personal lives (there seems to be a meshing of these two entities, too, and what used to be distinct and separate is fast becoming just "it", with the social media communication revolution). The demands of moment to moment change is both exciting and exhausting.
And revolution it is!
For this weekend, though, take time, enjoy family and friends, unlock the cottage and blow out the cobwebs, get out in that boat and let Nature speak to you...nothing better than sea air to rejuvenate and restore.
Whether it's this weekend or next, a holiday is a gift of time to unwind and just 'to be'...no expectations.
