Growing some of our own food...maybe it's a good idea?

One of the things that is perhaps being overlooked is the potential food crisis in the world.

Many of us can remember our grandparents creating veggie gardens and planting orchards in back yards...I think they were called Victory Gardens?

It was about being self-sufficient, as much as possible, in staples such as local fruits and vegetables...some people even kept chickens.

With so many things we once "counted on" suddenly becoming "potentially endangered", it might be a good idea for all of us to consider being a little more self-sustaining.

It's possible to plant tomatoes, and strawberries and other "pot growing items" on a patio or deck...in a back yard, there's the option for potatoes, carrots, lettuce, beans, peas....it doesn't take a lot of room to feed a family of four, say.    Neighbourhood plots are another idea...growing things is a great way to encourage a community responsiveness, too.

Just some ideas....if not possible, personally, to do this, then it's a good idea to be on the farmer's list as a purchaser of what they grow...farm gate status is ok for food, too, not just for beginning vineyards!

And your ideas are?    Always welcome!
