Saturday Market in the Park! Opening day, today...the "season" has begun!

Each week, leading up to July 1st (Canada Day), more and more vendors will add their wares...until suddenly it's Summer, and the full component of artisans will be there...today's "season opener" is Salt Spring's marker that it really is Spring!

Next week anchors the season: first annual Blossom Festival, April 8 to 10th...great line-up of activities...perfect "welcome" to the Island and to Spring! (Pick up your passport, get it stamped at participating locations, and be in the running for some great prizes!). Enjoy!

Live music venues: Treehouse Cafe (at the Boardwalk, in "Old Mouat's" area, across from Home Hardware), Harbour House Hotel, Moby's (at Salt Spring Marina)!

Dining out? Good choices: Bocados Bistro (Grace Point Square), Piccolo's (Hereford Avenue), Calvin's Bistro ("main street"), Harbour House Hotel, Marketplace Cafe (Harbour Centre, adjacent to Centennial Park)), Hastings House (yes, dining room is open for "the season", as of April 1st), Seaside Kitchen (Vesuvius), Rock Salt Cafe (Fulford)...lucky us, all these delectable options! Enjoy!

Light fare? Rendezvous Cafe (across from Moby's, at Salt Spring Marina), Cafe Talia (on Hereford Ave.), Barb's Bakery and Bistro (Creekside, off McPhillips), Treehouse Cafe, Auntie Pesto's (in Grace Point), Bruce's Kitchen (in Harbour Centre). Lucky lucky us!

Pick up the 2011 Studio Tour map at the Chamber Tourist info centre, on "main street" of Ganges Village...such talented artists, who just happen to call Salt Spring "home".

Catch podcasts of some of my interviews with some of these oh so talented Islanders, from my live radio show on the local community station (www.liread.com/radio.htm). Thank you!

Take in the gallery shows in Ganges Village: Steffich Fine Art, Gallery 8, Starfish (all in Grace Point Square), Pegasus Gallery of Canadian Art (on Boardwalk, Old Mouat's), Salt Spring Gallery of Fine Art (McPhillips Ave), ArtSpring Lobby and Gallery...ahhh...Picasso was right: "art washes the dust from our souls".

"Spot" gallery showcases at Cafe Talia, TJ Beans, Bocados Bistro....

Some "downtime" on your list? Meander into one of our great bookstores: Volume 2 down by the Coast Guard/floatplane docks, in "old Mouat's", Black Sheep Books at Grace Point Square, Salt Spring Books on McPhillips Ave, next to TJ Beans, and Watermark Books, across McPhillips Ave, next door to Salt Spring Roasting Co.

Needing some rejuvenation? Contact Lisa of Figs and Honey...don't miss this relaxing experience! A little fitness workout needed? Call DebFit...her oceanview studio is at corner of Park and "main road", at edge of Village...be inspired!
