Hmmm....a different view of the old rocking chair on the front porch scenario!
So, what does it mean, this concept of retirement?
I note with interest, as I watch t.v. coverage of the riots in the streets of France, where people are complaining that the retirement age of 58 will have to be raised, as the government in that country struggles to bring its deficit under control. Wasn't that also the reason for the riots in Greece, earlier? Early retirement was under attack?
Well, workafrolics, it's time to step forward. Retirement, in the sense of giving up on a life pattern that involves daily action, may not be the way to enjoy a good "last third of life". As humans, we need social interaction, it's good to earn to pay our way, if we are lucky enough to be doing something that interests us, keeps us grounded and in touch with the "now", that's all a recipe for remaining young at heart and in ideas.
Sitting in the rocking chair, withdrawing from the daily "hum", no matter how enticing that porch might be, is not necessarily the healthy way to approach our latter years.
One thing I love about real estate as a career is that there is no age or gender requirement to good service and enjoyment of the daily contacts.
Who said we were supposed to retire, anyway?
And your thoughts are? Always welcome!
