As discretionary & resort-based regions struggle to preserve the environmental beauties of what attracts people to them in the first place, then preservation "no growth" decisions may be made.
If vacation & recreational properties offered half share and quarter share ownership options, then the properties would be more affordable and also would keep the impact of population growth under control.
It's a thought...for the Gulf Islands, governed under the government body known as the Islands Trust, with its stringent growth management policies, it may allow a way to encourage health in the business community, which brings quality lifestyle opportunities to a community. A vibrant business core benefits all.
Shared ownership, small cottage/secondary spaces, cluster development, living space above retail/offices...all ideas to consider. In this civic election month (cast your vote on November 19th), make sure you discover where those running for the two trustee positions stand on this issue.
