I'm very lucky to live and to work in a wondrously beautiful "natural world"...the Southern Gulf Islands and Southern Vancouver Island have so many places with the allure in the photo above. Sky, ocean, beaches, park reserves, a sense of yesteryear calm and yet close to major centres with all amenities...yes, it is pretty special. Throw in temperate climate, and it gets even better!
It's not always about the beauty of an area, though. People are very essential to the "mix" of what makes a region stand out, and to find itself on lists of "best places to live in the world".
I've been having fun with a morning radio show on the new community radio station on Salt Spring Island (it's every Monday and Wednesday, from 7 to 9 a.m., PT), and I like to call it "all things Salt Spring". I showcase the Islands, and the people who live on them, so it's not about "real estate" at all.
You can catch podcasts of some of the interviews I've done with various Islanders, all of whom started to do something completely different when they arrived here. In some cases, it was a returning to a passionate interest from early days, and in others, it was new discoveries/new adventures.
