Ah...the eternal dream! A cabin on waterfront...whether ocean or lake, the dream is the same.
Nestled in wilderness, a true escape from the city's demands, a dock to jump off and to swim from, and to moor a boat at or to perch a kayak or canoe...voyaging, after all, is in the Canadian psyche.
It's getting more and more difficult to locate such a retreat property, though, especially on the thin ribbon of land between sea and mountains that describes the Pacific Northwest Coast.
In areas closer to major centres, this kind of retreat property has been redesigned as a second home, one that promises a retirement escape when ready. Cottage territory has vanished.
Farther out, away from easy access to all mod cons, the time famine world of the post-internet 21st Century means that one can't visit the retreat often enough to benefit from its recharging promise. A for sale sign goes up....
A way of life, then, may be vanishing. Cottage country, where are you now?
