Interesting that there are so many people willing to run for office in this year's civic election.
Two trustees to be elected (incumbents are not running again), a CRD representative (incumbent is running), and 10 positions on School Board are also open.
Congratulations to all who have stepped forward, to run for office. It is a community service, to do so.
Important that we all do our part, too...that we attend the various all candidates meetings, that we listen to debates, that we are informed.
This appears to be a pivotal time on Salt Spring, where tourism has been afflicted by the economic uncertainties of the past three years, and where businesses are in distress.
Be thoughtful, look at the big picture, change is everywhere and that includes in our lovely slightly "apart" area, with a governance model (Islands Trust) that has been in effect since 1974...so important to consider creative change while still retaining the environmental concerns behind the bylaws.
We are all stewards of our Island. Important to be informed and to vote. Apathy doesn't cut it!
An All Candidates meeting this evening, at 7 p.m., at Fulford Hall. Another one on November 7th, at 7 p.m., at ArtSpring. Lots of information in the weekly Driftwood newspaper, and also their online version. The local community radio station is also running interviews and forums, for all candidates...check the station's schedule on their website...this Saturday, the 29th, there is a radio show with the candidates running for the two trust positions.
Take part, listen, decide.
It's your Island, too...make sure your voice is heard, on November 19th.
