Waiting for Christmas light-up...chases the darker days!

Property Photo

At this darker time of year, anything that delivers light and sparkle is welcome...light up in the Village is a welcome holiday event.

Christmas on Salt Spring is a time of allure & tradition. The local weekly newspaper sponsors an annual "decorate your windows" event among the local businesses...always fun! Special menus at various restaurants...craft fairs in many locations...studios open on "the tour"...remember, though, in the midst of the pleasures, that the Food Bank needs help, that Copper Kettle needs your caring thought, that "Santa's Anonymous" needs your generous care, and that the local shops need your local patronage, as the way to community "health"...so many needs.

Enjoy the Santa that comes by floatplane, and the Santa that arrives by ship, and the Santa that visits the Village on late opening evenings...Santa is the emblem of open handed generosity, a good message in these troubled economic times.

A season to remember family and friends, to practice the attitude of gratitude, and to be inclusive in our celebrations...remembering those on their own.

Time to take five and to read Charles Dickens original A Christmas Carol...still a good reminder of what it is to be human: we are all responsible for all humankind.
