It's not Walden's Pond, that's for sure, but it does have the allure that still water offers...a reflecting eye of the sky.
The ocean has its appeal, and a day of sailing in the protected waters of the Southern Gulf Islands can be an amazing pleasure.
The chatter of a creek, when hiking the woods, is a friendly sound.
A large lake can be calm or rippled, as the wind drifts across its expanse.
A private pond, though, is something else again...occasional ducks land on it, brown trout discover it, swimming in it is a pleasure, and one can even row a small boat about....
Surrounded by early Spring's awakening, leaves unfurling, dragonflies hovering, the dazzle of sunlight on the stillnes....
These are moments to savour, in the midst of our daily lives. And wasn't that the message of Walden's Pond, and Thoreau's "diary" of his year there? To be still, and to listen, and to allow Nature to speak to us?
Definitely worth preserving!
