This coming Sunday is the last Sunday in the Advent season. Advent has an air of expectancy about it, and is seen as a time of preparation. In lighting a candle for each Sunday, which offers up a different "theme" for one to ponder and meditate upon, one arrives at four candles, and the fifth, for Christmas Day, all of them lighting one's world at this dark time of year. The four candles of Advent are: LOVE, JOY, HOPE, PEACE.
This Sunday, in lighting the candle of PEACE, it is good to enlarge our thought from our personal spaces, our "nearest and dearest", and into the larger community of the world.
In this internet age, which has delivered what Marshall McLuhan foresaw, back in the 60s, that we are now a "global village", our individual thought can affect the entire planet.
PEACE is the message for this Sunday, the last in the Advent celebration. It is perhaps the most powerful....remember, there is no "them", only "us". If not "us", then "who"?
